Many of our customers know the reading habits of our
staff... people know if they like "Mike books" or "Susan books". For
those of you who know which staff member's reading tastes are most
like your own, we're presenting each person's choices on a separate
page. For those of you who don't know our staff that well, you soon
will! Take a peak at each staff member's choices--some might just
surprise you!
Michael Hare is one of
the owners of the Owl's Nest. Having owned the store for ten years,
Mike's tastes are fairly well-known to most of our regular
customers. He enjoys a darker tone and a quirkier sense of humour in
his stories.
Susan Hare is the other Owl's Nest owner. Susan is
the staff mystery lady! And not just because she's so darn
mysterious herself--Susan reads a wide variety of mysteries, as well
as some of the more "cozy" novels.
Judith Duthie is the manager at the Owl's Nest. She
loves anything to do with history (with a special place in her heart
for historical mysteries) and makes the occasional foray into the
worlds of science fiction and fantasy.
Cynthia Asquin-Richards specialises in children's
literature and runs our three
children's bookclubs.
Cynthia's tastes lie somewhere between Mike and
Susan's, with a slant towards the quirky.
Jeanie Leew loves
great books of any kind, but is especially drawn to historical
fiction and to local authors.
Anne Jayne, our
senior nester, arrived in November. Anne
chaired Calgary's Freedom Of Expression Committee for a number
of years and assists lawyers doing research. She is upgrading
her schooling and also enjoys writing mysteries.
Charlene Lazaruk is a mother who likes reading
books with her children as well as finding volumes for herself.
Jessie's Picks
Jessie Hale has recently returned to the nest,
degree in hand. (Congrats, Jessie!) She enjoys a wide
selection of literary fiction, both contemporary and historical.
Lizzie's Picks
Lizzie Winans was a member of two of our children's
book clubs and a great friend of the staff long before she come
on board as a bookseller where she can now give peer-to-peer
recommendations to teens and young readers.
